Team Leader - Chemical Ecology

5 year post-doc position

Potential to convert to a permanent position

Team Leader - Chemical Ecology

We are looking for an experienced chemical ecologist to lead a semi-independent research group embedded within the Czaczkes workgroup (Applied Zoology and Animal Ecology).

The ACElab has been moving strongly in the direction of applied entomology and insect ecology. Both of these fields invariably need the support of chemical ecologists. As such, we are searching for an experienced chemical ecologist to lead* an independent* chemical ecology work group, embedded within the Czaczkes workgroup.

The successful candidate will be able to pursue their own research agenda, but are expected to collaborate with Prof. Czaczkes where sensible and possible. "But ultimately" says Prof. Czaczkes, "I am looking for a colleague, not an employee". The candidate will enrich and broaden the research focus and interests of the work group.

Experience in the chemical ecology of arthropods is preferred, as well as an interest in animal behaviour, to match the broad research focus of the group.

The successful candidate will enjoy extensive facilities including a fully equipped Chemical Ecology laboratory, with 2 GC-MSs, thermal desorber, autoloader, electroantennography rig, and all standard equipment required. Funds are available to purchase additional key equipment if required. In addition, we aim to hire a full time technician with direct GC-MS experience to support the research and help maintain the equipment.

The candidate will be required to take on a significant teaching role (4 SWS), with a focus on Ecology practicals and seminars. The ability to teach in German is a requirement.

The successful candidate will be employed at full time researcher rates for Germany (§ 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG, TV-L E13, 100%), 4100-6000 euro gross per month depending on years of qualifying experience. The position is limited to 5 years. An equivalent permanent position could then be made available if the candidate is a good fit for the group. Please note that the permanent position would include a heavier teaching load (8 SWS).

* Strictly speaking, we can't call these leadership or independent positions because they are hired at TVL 13

This advertisement is not legally binding. The official advertisement (German only) will be published when available.
